Melbourne FP1: Hamilton sets early pace chased by Bottas

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finished one-two for Mercedes in first free practice for the 2017 season opening Australian Grand Prix weekend as a new era of Formula 1 kicked off in Melbourne. Speculation ahead of the first race centred around the big step forward by Ferrari over the winter, but driver Kimi Raikkonen, who was fastest of the Reds. ended the session in fifth fastest. Hamilton used Pirelli Ultrasoft tyres when he set his best lap time of 1:24.220 around Albert Park, which was over five seconds faster that the times set in the same session at the venue last year.
