Alonso calls Ferrari ‘stupid’ for qualifying debacle

Fernando Alonso’s hopes of challenging championship leader Sebastian Vettel at the Italian Grand Prix suffered a blow after the Red Bull driver claimed pole position while the Spaniard qualified fifth behind his teammate. Ferrari had been practicing a tow during final practice earlier in the day, a tactic which would have allowed Alonso to trail Felipe Massa to slingshot and gain more pace at the high-speed Monza circuit. But Massa proved to be too quick and eventually qualified fourth, leaving Alonso fuming as the Brazilian did not provide the slipstream that the Spaniard had expected.
