F1: 2027 set for shorter races

Due to anticipated fuel use next season, the teams have agreed to have race distances being shortened. In a bid to curb the energy 'starvation' witnessed at some events this season, for 2027 fuel flow rates are to be increased. Understandably, this will result in the need for more fuel, which - other than a return to in-race refuelling - would require larger fuel tanks. This, of course, would require a redesign of the cars, which, with an eye on the budget cap, the teams were unwilling to do since they want available funds to upgrade their cars, many of which will be basically carried over, rather than go for a complete new design.
