Teams' reaction following the opening day in Melbourne

The opening day of the Australian Grand Prix saw Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc set the pace with championship runaway leader Max Verstappen forced to settle for second spot on the leaderboard. Ferrari Ferrari had a strong opening day, although it was not surprising given their encouraging pace in the opening two rounds of the season. Leclerc looked quick on both the medium and the soft compound, and he displayed great speed during his high-fuel run. His team-mate Carlos Sainz made his return after his surgery.
