Pierre Gasly says contact with Fernando Alonso, which damaged his AT03, was the catalyst for his accident with Lando Norris a lap later. Both Gasly and Norris retired from the Miami Grand Prix after crashing on lap 41 of the 57-lap race. What led to that crash, though, started one lap earlier. Gasly had been hit by the Alpine of Alonso as the Spaniard tried to dive up the inside of Turn 1, causing contact. Although his car didn't feel right, the Frenchman tried to stay out to see if it was just a momentary thing but, heading back to the pits on the next lap having conceded that it was game over, he moved over to allow cars through.
