In the early stages of the Austrian Grand Prix, Lando Norris was adjudged to have caused a collision with Sergio Pérez. The Mexican wanted to overtake Norris on the outside of turn four, but because of Norris' defending, Pérez ended up in the gravel, an incident for which the Englishman received a penalty. Race direction ruled that Norris left his racing line while making the turn, leaving Pérez with nowhere to go. The McLaren driver received a time penalty of five seconds and two penalty points.
