Hamilton pips Verstappen to claim 100th F1 pole at Spanish GP

Red Bull looked to hold the edge over Mercedes after Verstappen ended up half a second clear of the field in Q2, but Hamilton pulled out another special qualifying lap to pip his title rival to pole by just 0.036s and become F1’s first pole centurion. Hamilton produced a 1m16.741s on his first run in Q3 and that lap proved to be good enough to land his second pole of the season with none of the front-runners able to improve on their final efforts. Valtteri Bottas will start from third on the grid after he ended up 0.132s down on his Mercedes teammate.
