The day after he became a father, Daniil Kvyat secured an extremely unlikely podium finish for Toro Rosso, as the Russian describes his race as "a rollercoaster, just like my career". The Russian started the race from P14 but was very opportunistic with the Safety Cars, of which there were many during the chaotic German Grand Prix, pitting at the right time as well as overtaking on track when needed.  Crucially, Kvyat overtook Lance Stroll for P2 in the final stages of the race and got some separation, driving away while the Canadian slowed down the charging Sebastian Vettel.
