Having topped all three practice sessions heading into qualifying, Hamilton pipped Valtteri Bottas to secure top spot. Bottas scorched his way around the Albert Park circuit to set the fastest time ever recorded around the venue, his 1:20.598 easily good enough for provisional pole.
