With the sun lowering fast and about half an hour left of track action left, on the first day of the second Formula 1 preseason test at Circuit de Catalunya, McLaren sent out their rookie driver Lando Norris out for some quick laps and he duly delivered the top time in the Renault powered MCL34. Norris' best time of 1:17.709 was a mere six-thousandths of a second quicker than Pierre Gasly in the Honda-powered Red Bull, who he tipped off the top of the timing screens at the end of the day. Perhaps we will be told there was no intent to dislodge their former engine supplier off top spot. Once again lap times were topsy turvy and hardly reflect the true pecking order of teams as they prepare...
