Mercedes & Pascal Wehrlein part ways as he tests a Formula E car

Former Mercedes young driver Pascal Wehrlein has split from the German marque, after failing to land a competitive drive since departing F1. Pascal Wehrlein had been part of the Mercedes program since 2012, arriving in F1 with the Manor team in 2016. Two largely unsuccessful seasons followed, with Wehrlein swapping to Sauber for 2017. However, he was bypassed for a seat in 2018 as Charles Leclerc arrived on the scene with Ferrari backing. Returning to DTM for this year with Mercedes, the German team are departing the series at the end of this year and, as a result, Merc have opted to release him rather than keep him within their motorsport program.
