Alonso retires from Formula 1

Fernando Alonso has retired from Formula 1 and will quit McLaren at the end of the season. Despite being considered to be one of the best drivers to ever grace an F1 cockpit, the 37-year-old has not won an F1 race in five years and the Drivers' World Championship in over a decade. The two-time world champion is to make a full-time switch to the Indy Car series. Alonso will be able to pursue his ambition of completing motorsport's 'triple crown' having seemingly given up hope on landing a front-running driver in F1 again either with McLaren, with whom he has spent the last four years at the wrong end of the grid, or with the sport's current dominant forces - Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull....
