Sebastian Vettel's pole position at the German Grand Prix appeared to underline that his Ferrari is the fastest car in Formula 1, and potentially marked a crucial shift in the balance of performance between the top two teams. His title rival Lewis Hamilton certainly faces an uphill battle in Sunday's race, starting from down in 14th place after a hydraulics failure in qualifying.
