While Sir Mo Farah claimed the 2017 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, triple World Superbike Jonathan Rea produced a minor shock by finishing runner-up with Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton finished a lowly sixth place. Rea was the first motorcycle racer nominated for the prestigious award in a decade thanks to his historic three consecutive World Superbike titles and fans voted in huge numbers to see the Kawasaki Racing Team rider storm to second place and only miss out on the overall award by less than 3,000 public votes. 2014 BBC SPOTY award winner Hamilton finished sixth on the public vote, his worst result from his five nominations during his career, with many votes...
