Steiner: F1 must look after current teams before expanding grid

Haas Formula 1 chief Günther Steiner believes it is important for the series’ bosses to focus on the existing roster of 10 teams before catering to the needs of possible new entrants. Senior F1 officials are currently working to define its future direction under new owner, Liberty Media, with early plans for the 2021 power unit regulations being unveiled last month in a bid to attract new manufacturers to the sport. FIA president Jean Todt confirmed earlier this year there is interest from new teams to join the F1 grid, but Steiner stressed the importance of looking after the existing grid with a set of rules and agreements that work before looking at growing numbers.
