Bottas to take grid drop for new gearbox

– Valtteri Bottas will be hit with a five-place grid penalty at the British Grand Prix due to an unscheduled gearbox change, a week after team-mate Lewis Hamilton endured the same fate, Mercedes has stated.Bottas, who topped the timesheets in both of Friday's practice sessions at Silverstone, will take on a new unit for the remainder of the event after damage was detected.Mercedes explained that the issue was similar to the one that led to Hamilton swapping his gearbox at the previous round in Austria, having also set the practice pace.Under current Formula 1 rules, drivers must use a gearbox for six consecutive events, though are permitted to use a new gearbox if they retire from...
