Alonso set quickest rookie time in first Indy 500 practice

Provisional moving from Formula 1 to Indy 500, Fernando Alonso set the quickest rookie lap-time through Monday's practice for the Indianapolis 500 but lost his more practice running in the traffic due to a suspension problem. The Spaniard completed 36 laps on the famous oval at a best average speed of 221.63mph. F1 double world champion admitted he had feared the furious hot sunshine and temperatures around 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) might be a problem before climbing into his McLaren-Honda-Andretti.
