Fernando Alonso has hailed his Chinese Grand Prix qualifying lap as 'one of the best' he's ever done after securing P13 on the grid, having been only 17th quickest in practice on Saturday morning. The McLaren driver was just over two-tenths off making it into the top-ten shoot-out, and although his efforts were aided by Sauber's Antonio Giovinazzi crashing, which caught a number of drivers out during Q1, he though he would be much lower down the order, fighting with Sauber over the penultimate row of the grid.
