Pirelli to chose opening tyre sets of 2017 season

The World Motor Sport Council have revealed that Pirelli will chose the driver tyre allocations for the first five rounds of the 2017 season. For the start of the 2016 season, teams and drivers have been permitted to chose ten of their thirteen sets of dry-weather tyres for a Grand Prix weekend, choosing from three available compounds. As part of the regulations, tyre choices must be made eight weeks prior to a European event, or fourteen weeks prior to a ‘flyaway' race. This means that the selections for the first few races of the 2017 season would be made around pre-season testing.
