Bottas's car damaged by loose drain cover

There was fresh trouble for the new Baku circuit on Saturday morning when a loose drain cover in the pitlane damaged Valtteri Bottas’ Williams. The Finn had just completed an installation lap and was returning to his garage when his car struck a cover that had worked loose just after the pitlane entry. The Williams team discovered that the incident had damaged the right-hand-side sidepod – forcing the team to begin hasty repairs. F1 technical delegate Jo Bauer was seen inspecting the loose cover – which was sheltering cables – and a traffic cone was placed over the hole to prevent other drivers facing similar trouble.
