Ricciardo debuts 'aeroscreen' during practice

Red Bull/Getty Images Daniel Ricciardo publicly debuted Red Bull's ‘aeroscreen’ head protection device during free practice for the Russian Grand Prix on Friday. Red Bull has designed the system as an alternative to the ‘halo’ system, which was developed by Mercedes and the FIA, before being trialled on the Ferrari SF16-H during pre-season testing. Ricciardo completed an installation lap at Sochi with the canopy, dubbed the aeroscreen, attached to the RB12. The FIA confirmed that Red Bull last week conducted static tests, with a wheel fired at the screen at a speed of 225km/h. The screen deflected the wheel.
