Raikkonen tests head protection concept
Scuderia Ferrari Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen has debuted the 'halo' cockpit protection system, which could be introduced into the sport next season. Increasing head protection has been a primary concern for Formula 1 in recent years, with research accelerated in the wake of the deaths of Jules Bianchi and Justin Wilson. Raikkonen took to the circuit on the third day of the final pre-season test in Spain with a concept of the 'halo' device fitted to his SF16-H to complete an installation lap. It was agreed last week by Formula 1 figures that increased cockpit protection is set to be introduced in 2017, with the 'halo' concept the favoured option.
