Vettel tops while Alonso hit with troubles in first practice

Sebastian Vettel topped the first practice session for the Indian Grand Prix on Friday while his solitary title rival Fernando Alonso faced troubles with his gearbox, potentially paving the way for the Red Bull driver to clinch the title this weekend. The German clocked a time of 1 minute 26.683 seconds around the 5.1-kilometre Buddh International Circuit , nearly two-tenths clear from teammate Mark Webber, in warm and hazy conditions. Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg was third, 0.216 seconds off the pace, indicating that it could be a close weekend.
