Russian Grand Prix on the rocks after missing application deadline

The future of the Russian Grand Prix has been thrown into doubt after reports that the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) missed the deadline to submit its application to host a race in 2014. This comes just a week after the organisers of the event, due to be held at the Sochi Olympic Park, hinted that they had been allocated a slot on the Formula One calendar for the 19th October 2014. It is understood that the RAF refused to officially lodge their application for next year’s Grand Prix due to a financial dispute with the promoters of the Sochi track, JSC Omega.
