Fangio's 1954 Mercedes expected to fetch record price

The car which powered Juan Manuel Fangio to the second of his five world championships is up for sale and could fetch more than $15 million. The Mercedes-Benz W196, described as “just like a piece of mechanical jewellery', is slated to be auctioned at Goodwood Festival of Speed this month. In 1954, Fangio won six of the nine races that season but only two of the victories came at the hands of the aforementioned car. His first two wins that year were with a Maserati while the triumphs in Germany and Switzerland were in the W196. “The 2.5-litre vehicle - chassis number 00006/54 - was also driven by Fangio's teammate Karl Kling in the 1955 Italian Grand Prix in Monza but suffered...
