Alonso pleased with smaller deficit to front

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso reckons his team has returned to "a more normal level of competitiveness" after Saturday's qualifying session for the German Grand Prix. Having featured highly throughout practice, Alonso and team-mate Felipe Massa comfortably made it through to the final shootout phase, the pair locking out the fourth row of the grid after choosing to post times on the harder, Prime compound tyre. "I think we did a step forward here," said Alonso, who wound up just behind Massa in eighth position.
