F1: Alonso denies Dakar drive
Fernando Alonso has denied media claims that he is to contest next year's Dakar Rally. On the run-up to the Singapore weekend there were claims that the Spaniard was to contest the event with backing from Aston Martin. In 2020, while taking a break from F1 as he pursued his Triple Crown dream, he contested the infamous rally with Toyota on the back of an intense five-month testing programme in Africa, Europe and the Middle East contesting various races to prepare himself. Along with co-driver Marc Coma, a five-time Dakar Rally bike class winner, he finished thirteenth with a best stage finish of second place.
