Russell reveals what derailed his Madring Q3 charge

George Russell will start only sixth at the Spanish Grand Prix, a frustrating outcome after the Mercedes driver had looked like a serious pole contender in the early stages of qualifying. Russell topped Q1 around Madrid’s demanding new Madring circuit, but the advantage rapidly evaporated. By Q2 and Q3, he was consistently around three tenths adrift of teammate Kimi Antonelli, who secured second on the grid behind poleman Lando Norris. For Russell, however, the deficit was less about a fundamental lack of Mercedes pace and more about a combination of tyre behaviour, setup changes and the unforgiving...
