Ferrari show strong pace but struggle with balance in Madrid practice
Ferrari enjoyed a promising opening day at the inaugural Spanish Grand Prix at Madrid’s new Madring, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton both featuring near the front of the field in both practice sessions. However, the SF-26 still showed some weaknesses, particularly when the drivers pushed the car on the soft tyres. Leclerc finished FP1 third fastest with a 1:34.536, just ahead of Hamilton, who recorded a 1:34.620. The Ferrari pair initially appeared particularly competitive on the medium compound, with the two drivers repeatedly exchanging the fastest lap times as they worked through their programmes.
