FP1:Russell leads Mercedes 1-2 in first-ever Madrid F1 practice
George Russell set the pace in the opening Formula 1 practice session at the new Madring circuit in Madrid, leading Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli to a convincing one-two as the Spanish Grand Prix weekend got underway. Russell recorded the fastest lap of the first-ever Formula 1 session at the new venue, finishing 0.286 seconds ahead of Antonelli. The result provides an encouraging early indication of Mercedes' competitiveness at a circuit that presents a very different challenge to the high-speed Monza track used for the previous round of the championship. The session was particularly significant for Russell, who enters the Madrid weekend 66 points behind Antonelli in the championship....
