Mercedes explain Kimi Antonelli's costly Silverstone technical issue

Mercedes Trackside Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin has explained the technical failure that ended Kimi Antonelli's hopes of fighting for victory at the British Grand Prix, revealing that a sudden wheel shield failure transformed what looked like a winning strategy into a point-less finish. Antonelli appeared to be Charles Leclerc's biggest challenger during Sunday's race at Silverstone despite losing the lead at the start to the Ferrari driver. After dropping behind both Ferraris on the opening lap, the Italian regained second place by overtaking Lewis Hamilton during the opening stint.
