Why was Antonelli penalized after the Barcelona race despite his retirement?
Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s Barcelona‑Catalunya weekend ended in a double setback, as the championship leader retired with a power‑unit failure and then received a post‑race five‑second time penalty for exceeding track limits. Although the sanction had no effect on the final classification, it added another layer of frustration to a race in which the 19‑year‑old Italian had been fighting hard before his Mercedes came to a halt. Antonelli spent much of the early phase of the grand prix chasing down team‑mate George Russell, pushing aggressively through the long, sweeping corners of the Circuit de Barcelona‑Catalunya.
