Title contenders Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton topped the timing screens at the end of a busy first free practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix, as teams made the most of the 90 minutes as rain is expected at Suzuka in the afternoon. Vettel, whose Ferrari was severely damaged in a freak collision in Malaysia less than a week ago, showed strong pace as he powered to the top of the timing screens with a best lap of 1:29.166.
