Strategic Penalties – The Mercedes Dilemma

Mercedes are planning for the failure of their next turbo charger or MGU-H unit….     Many of you might have forgotten the difficulties Lewis Hamilton experienced at the start of the season that allowed Nico Rosberg to achieve his early lead.   The car, rife with Turbo failures, caused slow starts and early pits along with various parts of the MGU-H unit failing and needing replacement.   This isn’t a problem for a team with more spare parts than General Motors, but it is a problem when the rules only allow for a maximum of 5 replacements of each power unit part over the course of a season.     With Lewis having used all already, this has left Mercedes...
