Honda: Not acceptable to use external help

Honda's Yasuhisa Arai says that McLaren inquired about the engine manufacturer using consultants and external engineers to help with their return to the sport. Honda rejoined Formula 1 in 2015 after 7 years away from the series. Added to the difficulty of readapting was a raft of technical changes that saw the engine formula swap from 2.4 V8 normally aspirated units to 1.6 litre V6 turbos. Honda struggled in their first year back, with an engine that was lacking reliability and horsepower. With McLaren taking a raft of penalties at what seemed to be every race, due to engine penalties, Honda's Arai says that the team did ask whether development was something that Honda could use help...
