Customer engines must be same spec as works – FIA

The FIA, Formula 1's governing body, has announced several rule changes for the 2016 season, including customer engines having to be the same spec as those run by works teams. This prevents cars using year-old power units, like the deal Manor Marussia has this season with Ferrari. The regulation tweak announced on Wednesday means from 2016-2020 manufacturers must supply equal power units to all teams. This could prove to be crucial for Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso, as both teams are currently looking for a competitive engine deal for next year onwards.
