Red Bull and Toro Rosso are in great danger of pulling out of Formula 1 if they can’t find a competitive engine and if they do, we’ll be looking at a 2016 grid of just 18 cars. Perhaps it’s time to look back at a proposal last discussed last year with the administration of Caterham and Marussia, the idea of some teams running three cars during a race weekend. Of course it’d be a little ridiculous to expect every team to suddenly be prepared to run 3 cars, Manor and Sauber are unlikely to have the budget for example, but for big teams like Mercedes and Ferrari?
