Ferrari's first Grand Prix winner Jose Froilan Gonzalez dead
Buenos Aires: Former Formula 1 driver Jose Froilan Gonzalez of Argentina died Saturday at the age of 90.He is notably known for winning Ferrari's first Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1951.Knicknamed as ‘Pampas Bull’, the Argentine started 22 World Championship races, adding a second British Grand Prix win with Ferrari in 1954. He also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1954.Born in Arrecifes, Argentina Oct 10, 1922, he raced in Formula 1 from 1950-57 and 1960 with Maserati, Ferrari, Vanwall and Talbot-Lago.Gonzalez finished runner-up to Juan Manuel Fangio in 1954 in the Formula 1 drivers' championship.
