Alonso picks up 1,000 speeding fine

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has been hit with a maximum fine of 1,000 (£855) for speeding in the pit lane during this afternoon's qualifying session in Monte-Carlo. At the start of a damp Q1 session, the Spaniard clocked a speed of 71.3 km/h (44.3 mph) behind the wheel of his F138, thus surpassing the limit of 60 km/h (37.2 mph). Alonso will start the Monaco Grand Prix from sixth, alongside Kimi Räikkönen.
