Alonso thrills home fans with Spanish GP win

Fernando Alonso won the Spanish Grand Prix in front of his jubilant home fans on Sunday to close the gap on championship leader Sebastian Vettel and get right back in the title race. The Spaniard, racing in front of his home crowd, won by 9.3 seconds from Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen while Felipe Massa clinched the final spot on the podium, in a result which pushed Ferrari up to second in the constructors’ championship. Vettel retained his lead in the standings, nevertheless, but was cut down by four points to 17 after the Red Bull driver finished fourth ahead of teammate Mark Webber.
