Rosberg records Mercedes' third straight pole

Nico Rosberg claimed pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix on Saturday in what was Mercedes’ third straight pole position of the season, a feat achieved for the first time since 1955. The German driver recorded his third career pole and his second consecutive of the season after clocking a time of 1 minute 20.718 seconds at Catalunya, a quarter of a second faster than teammate Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes locked out the front row for the second time since it returned to Formula 1 in 2010 after China last year when Michael Schumacher had qualified P2. Rosberg was on pole on both occasions.
