Netflix, BBC commentator sacked after complaints

A commentator on Netflix's Drive To Survive has been relieved of his Formula E duties following allegations of his inappropriate conduct towards women.

Jack Nicholls, who also commentates for BBC's radio F1 coverage, had been the lead commentator for Formula E since its inception in 2014, but lost his job with the all-electric racing series after an external probe into his behaviour.

"Formula E can confirm that an investigation was carried out in response to complaints of inappropriate behaviour received about Jack Nicholls," read a statement from the series.

"Following this investigation, Jack Nicholls' contract to provide race commentary was terminated."

A statement from Nicholls read: "Although disappointed with the decision, I respect it and accept why it was taken.

"I want to take full responsibility for what I did and apologise unreservedly for a couple of isolated incidents that has made those concerned feel uncomfortable.

"I never meant any harm and I am committed to making amends and to be more mindful of my behaviour in future."

Claims of impropriety brought by three women

According to The Guardian, insiders familiar with the investigation revealed that it was initiated following a formal complaint in March.

The inquiry revealed claims of inappropriate physical contact made by three individuals, one of whom had been in a relationship with Nicholls.

In addition to his roles with BBC and Formula E, Nicholls' commentary had also featured on Drive to Survive, with his voice recognisable to millions of viewers.

As yet, there is no suggestion that Nicholls is set to lose his commentary jobs with either BBC or Netflix.

Nicholls' personal website, which had detailed his various endeavours, is not currently active.
