Verstappen reacts to breaking long-standing Vettel record

Max Verstappen has explained how it feels to break a long-standing record achieved by Sebastian Vettel after his victory at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

Verstappen's win on the streets of Monte Carlo was his 39th P1 for Red Bull, meaning that he has now surpassed the number of wins that four-time World Champion Vettel claimed with the team.

Vettel enjoyed a period of dominance with the Milton Keynes-based squad between 2010 and 2013, claiming consecutive Drivers' and Constructors' titles.

Verstappen says that breaking the record held by Vettel is something that is "better" than he could have imagined when he first dreamed of becoming an F1 driver.

"If you have a good car for a while, you can break these kinds of numbers," Verstappen told media, including RacingNews365.com.

"But yeah, it's great. I would have never thought that I would be in this position in my career.

"When I grew up, I wanted to be a Formula 1 driver and winning these races is amazing.

"It's better than I could have ever imagined, for sure."

Verstappen's win in Monaco was his fourth of the 2023 F1 season and, with teammate Sergio Perez failing to score points, the victory extended the Dutchman's lead in the World Championship standings to 39 points.
