Verstappen curious about new feature at Spanish GP

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will look a little different for the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix, and Max Verstappen is looking forward to seeing the changes.

Max Verstappen is curious to see the new track layout at the upcoming Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will look a little different for the 2023 event after a chicane before the final corner – introduced back in 2007 – was removed, returning the Turns 14-15 section of the track to its original layout.

Other changes have also been made at the venue, including new TECPRO barriers in high-speed corners and additional safety features.

Verstappen – who claimed his first F1 victory in Barcelona in 2016 – is looking forward to returning to the circuit, which has been a regular feature on the Formula 1 calendar for many years.

Verstappen interested to see new layout

"I'm looking forward to going back to a track that we all know so well," Verstappen explained ahead of the race weekend.

"I'm also interested to see the new layout for the last two corners. Of course, I have great memories from this circuit, especially winning my first Formula 1 race there.

"Outside of the track, Barcelona is a great city too, I enjoy this weekend, it's a good place to be.

"Hopefully we'll have some nice weather to throw into the mix too."

Verstappen arrives into the seventh round of the 2023 F1 season with a 39-point lead over Sergio Perez in the World Championship standings, while Red Bull hold a 129-point advantage over Aston Martin in the Constructors'.
