Aston Martin call for 'focus' after stellar start to season

Aston Martin have started the 2023 season strongly, and currently sit in second place in the Constructors' standings.

Aston Martin boss Mike Krack says he is not "scared" that the success enjoyed in the 2023 Formula 1 season will not lead to the team getting carried away. Aston have scored back-to-back podiums in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia through Fernando Alonso, with the AMR23 having taken a giant leap forward from the midfield to make the car a contender among the so-called 'big three' teams. Alonso believes a victory is possible in 2023, and Krack believes the Silverstone squad is well-versed in not getting carried away.

Krack confident over Aston Martin form

"I think Team Silverstone have been in the business for a very, very long time, and the people know how racing is," Krack explained to media including RacingNews365 in Jeddah when asked about how he was keeping expectations in check. "So I am not scared that they will lose the ground from under their feet, we have to manage the situation properly. "The main thing is you have to keep the focus, it is not automatic, you always have to be on top of your game. "And as soon as you are not, someone is in front of you, so it is a mix and you have to manage it."

Huge momentum and energy

In Saudi Arabia, Alonso led the opening four laps of the race, the first time Aston had led since Sebastian Vettel's two laps at the 2022 United States Grand Prix. When asked about the morale boost of leading on merit (Vettel was in a pit-stop cycle), Krack says he expects a strong reaction to the "huge momentum". "It's incredible, you cannot believe it, if you do not live it," he said. "There is a huge momentum, huge energy in the team [and] I'm looking forward to go to work because everybody [will be] just flat out. "You have to push the people out to go home, to see their families at times. "All weekend, we had a mission control in the office, people that were just looking at stuff, analysing, trying to improve, so it's really a pleasure to work in the team."
