Timo Glock, former Formula One driver, argues that the passion for motorsport is waning in Germany. With Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel no longer having seats, Nico Hülkenberg is the only German driver in the starting field. He is also curious to see what the future holds for young Schumacher.

Formula 1 fans are growing in many places, such as Asia and North America. Due to the Netflix series Drive to Survive, the number of Formula 1 fans has exploded in the United States. According to Glock, just the opposite is happening in Germany, which worries him. "In my time, we had seven German Formula One drivers. The German Grand Prix was always sold out. Now we only have one active driver and Schumacher as a reserve driver. Motorsport does not really exist in Germany at the moment. That makes me and many of my colleagues think," the German said in an interview with Web.de.

Glock on Schumacher

Schumacher lost his seat in Formula 1 in 2023. After two years with the Haas team, Mick is now a reserve driver with Mercedes. Glock thinks this is good for Michael Schumacher's son. "I think it is a good step for his development to work with a team like Mercedes and the experienced drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell," he said. However, the crucial question is what will happen next year."

Schumacher to Audi?

The former Toyota driver is curious to see what the future holds for Schumacher and does not rule out a seat at Audi, which will take over Alfa Romeo from 2026, for the young German. He points to the marketing benefits of this and Guanyu Zhou's expiring contract. "That is definitely an option. Audi will definitely think about it. A German driver in a German car would certainly be interesting from a marketing point of view. As far as I know, Guanyu Zhou's contract expires after this season." So Glock sees opportunities for his compatriot.
