Brundle questions Horner's 'odd' driver line-up comments

Following the team's launch event of their 2023 F1 car, Red Bull boss Christian Horner suggested that Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are the strongest driver pairing that the Milton Keynes-based squad have had.

Martin Brundle believes it was "odd" for Christian Horner to declare that Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are the strongest driver line-up Red Bull have had. The two drivers joined Horner and reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo at the unveiling of the team's 2023 livery in New York, where Horner shared words of praise for the squad's current line-up. Horner labelled Verstappen and Perez as "the best pairing" Red Bull have "ever had in Formula 1" following their 17 race victories between them in 2022, which also helped the outfit to secure their first Constructors' Championship since 2013. In light of this, former F1 driver Brundle has questioned what exactly Horner meant by the word "best".

Brundle on Horner's 'odd' driver comments

"What does Christian mean when he says 'best'? Does he mean they fit together well as a combo?" Brundle told Sky Sports F1 . "In other words, that Sergio is probably a little bit more compliant than perhaps Mark Webber or Sebastian Vettel would have been. "So, odd in that respect, but Christian's got the data and that's what he thinks, and he's the boss. "But if they're the two you've got going into the season ahead, why not say nice things about them?"
