Nyck de Vries celebrates 28th birthday ahead of F1 debut

Nyck de Vries is celebrating his 28th birthday. The Dutchman will make his full-time debut in Formula 1 at Alpha Tauri in 2023, following titles in Formula 2 and Formula E. GPblog wishes Nyck a happy birthday.

Via long diversions, De Vries finally reached Formula 1. As part of the McLaren training programme, a future in the king class seemed to be in store for De Vries. He was considered one of the most talented drivers in his generation and won the world title in karting. In formula cars, the man born in Sneek then also won a lot.

It usually took De Vries a year to get used to a class, but his CV includes the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, Formula Renault 2.0 Alps, Formula 2 and Formula E. The fact that this allowed him to enter F1 in a roundabout way is not surprising given his career. At AlphaTauri, he will get a chance alongside Yuki Tsunoda in 2023.

At 28, the Friesian-born is certainly not the youngest debutant in F1. At Red Bull, his experience will see him take Pierre Gasly 's place. A big gap to fill, but during his debut in F1 during the Grand Prix weekend in Italy, the Dutchman proved really fast in an F1 car. So expectations are high.
