Horner rules out departure for Ferrari: 'Very committed to Red Bull'

Christian Horner is not surprised that Mattia Binotto has been sacked from Ferrari. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Red Bull Racing team boss puts his finger on the problem and is certainly not planning the switch himself.

For Horner, 2022 is a season not soon to be forgotten. With Max Verstappen winning the drivers' title for the second time in a row, Red Bull Racing also won the world championship for the first time since 2013. For 2023, however, Horner predicts it will be a lot tougher.

Binotto's departure

''I think both those guys [George and Lewis] have had great seasons. George finishing ahead of Lewis in his first year in the team was an impressive performance. But Lewis is still right there. You have to assume they will come back fighting hard next year, Ferrari as well will be looking to make progress. It's set to be a really tough season next year,'' said the Briton.

Asked if Horner was surprised that Binotto was sacked, he replied as follows: ''Not really. It's Ferrari's choice. It'll be the 6th team principal I'd have sat opposite since I've been at Red Bull. Difficult for him, they had a great car this year and were very competitive.''

So Horner does have sympathy for Binotto. He also sees that team bosses at Ferrari should leave soon. According to various media, the Briton himself has reportedly been approached by Ferrari to become Binotto's successor, but Horner has no appetite for that. ''I'm committed very much to the Red Bull team, I've been there since the beginning and have a very close attachment,'' Horner concluded.
