Alpine says it has made significant changes to its bolide for the upcoming season. Team boss Otmar Szafnauer admits that his team is still behind in some areas compared to the competition and this is also being addressed by the changes.

Alpine finished fourth among constructors after a strong season. The French racing stable wants nothing more than to compete for the titles soon, but then progress is key. High expectations are already being set with the arrival of Pierre Gasly to replace Fernando Alonso and as a result, the team hopes to finish third among constructors in 2023, but of course preferably higher.

Shortcomings

To meet these targets, Alpine is already making some changes. "There are areas where we fall short compared to other teams," Szafnauer said honestly in conversation with Formula1.co.uk. One such area is determining the simulation for race strategy. The tools to determine this strategy based on a variety of factors are deficient. "We are missing a bit in that area," the Alpine team boss acknowledges. The French formation experienced many problems this year due to porpoising. Szafnauer says they could have reduced the bouncing, but it would be at the expense of performance and the team did not want to give up. Szafnauer is confident that if it can be improved, the car will be faster and better next season.
